The Depot Ice Rink, 225 3rd Ave. S., reopens for the season Nov. 21. The skating rink was once home to the Milwaukee Road Depot, a bustling train shed built in 1899.  After rail service to the Depot ended in 1971 the Minnesota Historical Society added it to the National Register of Historical Places. Now home to two Marriot hotels, a bar, restaurant, indoor water park, parking garage, indoor ice rink and banquet space, the Depot is bustling with activity once again.  Skaters can glide on the ice in a climate-controlled glass atrium with a beautiful view of the Downtown skyline. Visit or call 375-1700 to find the rink calendar and prices.

Macy’s, 700 Nicollet Mall, presents its 45th annual animated holiday display this year, "The Nutcracker," which runs through Dec. 31 during store hours. This year’s story features 16 vignettes crafted by 40 local theatrical artists with 151 characters and more animation than ever before. Highlights include a Christmas tree that triples in size when the Nutcracker comes to life, a display of antique Nutcrackers from the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum that have been collected from all over the world, and a journey to the Very Merry Bakery at the end of the display where visitors can enjoy candy and gingerbread cookies. Visit for more information.

The Holidazzle Parade returns to the Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis for its 16th year this holiday season. This year, Macy’s is the show’s title sponsor. Parade-goers brave freezing temperatures each year to watch nearly 250 costumed characters and floats covered in millions of twinkling lights, and performances by local choirs and bands. Cub Foods and Ameriprise will be collecting perishable food and cash donations for the 10th Annual Food and Cash Drive. Emergency Food Shelf Network will also collect donations. Parades run from 6:30–7 p.m. each Thursday through Sunday evening Nov. 24 through Dec. 23. For more information about parking, weather conditions and volunteering to be in the parade, visit or call the Holidazzle Hotline at 376-SNOW.
