Twin Cities media columnist
The Southwest Journal is looking to start a reported monthly column focusing on the people, institutions and ideas shaping the Twin Cities news landscape.
We’re looking for a freelance writer with an independent voice who’s capable of providing informed, well-sourced and engaging media criticism. The column should serve metro area readers by weighing in on ethical dilemmas, explaining how and why coverage decisions are made in local newsrooms, encouraging transparency within news organizations and promoting bedrock journalistic values like accuracy, balance and fairness.
The columnist will be given wide latitude in terms of subject matter and encouraged to write about the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, MPR, MinnPost, City Pages, WCCO, KARE 11, FOX 9, Finance & Commerce, Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, Minnesota Monthly, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, the Minnesota Daily and other news organizations (including the Southwest Journal).
If you are interested in covering the Twin Cities media for the Southwest Journal, please email editor Zac Farber at firstname.lastname@example.org. You should submit three ideas for potential stories and a letter describing the direction you would want to take the column. Please include your resume, five clips and a list of any potential conflicts of interest.
