WINDOM — With weather teasing the Twin Cities as it does at the end of every winter, the slushy sidewalks and near-winter temperatures can make residents feel depressed, angry or uninspired.
Bachman’s wants to change that. The Southwest-based floral, gift and garden shop is hosting a Spring Ideas House, meant to show how people can liven-up their homes for spring and get out of the cabin-fever mood.
This year’s theme, Spring Romance in France, takes the 5936 Lyndale Ave. S. house owned by Bachman’s and aims to evoke the feel of a European countryside home.
“It’s a breath of fresh air from the long winter,” Sarah Pitts, a Bachman’s trend expert, said.
The house will focus on a “rustic elegance” with soft accents for each room, which take the theme above and beyond the spring concept. The dining room will be set up for a springtime brunch, while the kitchen features an all-natural egg-dying station.
Though a boy’s room is shown — featuring an “Indiana Jones”-inspired theme — the overall feel is feminine, Pitts said, and a response to the more masculine theme that was used last fall.
She said the house will offer about 125 ideas people can use in their homes at little or no cost. The Holiday 2010 theme featured old, leather-bound books stacked open to make a creative mantelpiece “Christmas tree,” and assorted salt and pepper shakers were filled with sprigs, pine and berries as decoration.
“You don’t have to spend a lot of money to improve the way you live,” Pitts said. “You can change things up anytime and all it takes is a little imagination.”
The Bachman’s Idea House is now in its second year, which is transformed every season with different home ideas. It first opened in 2010 to celebrate
Bachman’s 125th anniversary and to promote the company’s gift and home decor sales, Pitts said.
The show runs March 31–April 17, and is open every day except Mondays. Tickets are $5 each, with 20 percent of proceeds benefiting the Children’s Home Society and Family Services. Included in the ticket purchase is a $5 off coupon for purchases of $25 or more at Bachman’s.
