Residents have reported five attempted burglaries since Monday in a three-block area of Tangletown, police said today in a crime alert.
According to police: Burglars could not enter homes in three incidents because windows and doors were locked. In the other two incidents, the burglaries occurred overnight while homeowners were asleep, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Suspects entered through an unlocked window, and in one case, police discovered pry marks on a side door. Residents didn’t hear anything until they woke up and discovered things missing, said Crime Prevention Specialist Jennifer Waisanen.
As of July 11, burglaries in the 5th Precinct were down 32 percent year-to-date, a decline of nearly 140 burglaries.
