The City Council has passed a resolution officially declaring April 2015 as 30 Days of Biking Month in Minneapolis.
The city’s 30 Days of Biking campaign has grown from 300 pledges in 2010 to more than 7,000 in 2014. The 2015 goal is 15,000 pledges.
The April bike-riding pledge has spread around the world with people in more than 100 countries participating.
In honor of 30 Days of Biking Month, the I-35W and Lowry Avenue bridges will be illuminated the color teal on April 1 and April 30, respectively.
For every 30 pledges from bikers, campaign organizers have committed to donating one bike to Free Bikes 4 Kidz, a nonprofit that gives bikes to kids in need.
In the last seven years, the organization has given away more than 25,000 bikes.
