Aura Boutique co-founders Ellie Berquist and Kya Walker want to bring New York and LA fashion to 2447 Hennepin Ave. S. in April.

“It’s nothing you can really find here,” Berquist said.

They are transforming the former Wuollet Bakery into a boutique with blown-out walls and higher ceilings. They drew inspiration from shops they love on the coasts, choosing a monochromatic look with a little greenery and neon.

“It’s crazy how different it looks in there,” Berquist said.

Berquist and Walker attended school together at the Art Institutes International. They spent the past year visiting trade shows — one New York buying session was a whirlwind 14-hour roundtrip — and they offer a mix of high-end apparel, dresses and jeans.

“All of our things are neutral,” Berquist said.

Store brands include BOSSA, Joah Brown, PRIVATE PARTY and Dr. Denim.

The founders are collaborating with local models and photographers like Haythem Lafhaj and Grayson Levine, who are documenting the process of opening the shop.
